Manchester United's Champions League return could be secured by winning only half their remaining games

Manchester United have put themselves in pole position to finish in the top four – and could now only need to win half of their last eight games to qualify for next season's Champions League.

Four consecutive league wins against Sunderland, Newcastle, Tottenham and Liverpool has cemented United's place in the top four.

With eight games left, Louis van Gaal's side are five points clear of Liverpool in fifth.

And with only two points separating United with Manchester City, they are now closer to second – and an automatic place in the Champions League group stage – than they are to missing out all together.
